During summer, I looked back at my previous works and
decided what I was mostly interested in and what I wanted to push further
within my last year. I wanted to be able to utilise and further expand the
skills I had gained on my course. I had
this immense passion for intricate detail and pattern and I wanted to be able
to push this concept and create something different from my previous years.
Intrigued by the beauty of nature, I found that nature was filled with
incredible details and many more other elements, which I would pick up on
further into my research. Surface pattern designing was an area, which I wanted
to pursue in the future and so this fit perfectly in what I wanted to do for
final year. I decided on working digitally, as it still allows me to work
traditionally through drawing etc., while still producing contemporary work. I
would like to further expand my digital skills, as I believe this will help me
with my career. Combining other elements such
as embroidery are ideas, which I want to experiment with and see whether both
medias work together.
An introduction to the new unit – Practice, has made
excited. I feel this unit is one where I am able to take full control and
allows me to work independently in my own area. I feel this independence is
beneficial, as it will give me a sense of how the real world works and hope I
am able to cope with it. The live briefs will allow me to understand what it
will be like working for companies, where deadlines have to be met which will
mean I have to manage my time correctly this year. It will also challenge how I
work and whether I can adjust to the company’s style. I also have to structure
my time for working on my extended essay and PE tasks. This unit will allow me
to understand where I stand within the world of art and textiles.
