Evaluation

Drawing an end to this project and my degree, it has been a joyful and challenging experience. During this project and previous years at university, my skills as a surface pattern designer have significantly developed and expanded into a number of areas. This project has allowed me to become confident in my style but also has opened my mind, pushed me further and has allowed me to become diverse in my work.  Unit X has been a successful project, where my concept shines through into designs allowing it to reach the perfect target market.

My sophisticated Floral collection has the one were my passion for intricacy and detail was able to come through, showing the end user the beauty of nature and florals through drawing. I was able to conduct a series of prints, where my interpretation of florals could be seen, giving my work a contemporary but traditional look. I did face problems in producing a large quantity of drawings due to them being time consuming, however, being organised and planning what actually needed to be produced for unit x allowed me to not waste time and produce design that were needed. The effect of keeping original hand drawn style within the work, made my designs original and using monochromatic style with subtle colours, gave life and an atmosphere to the room. Also being able to showcase this collection within the duvet market has shown the range, which my style of work can go to. This collection contrasted with my indefinite nature collection, due to blasts of colour being used. I felt working with colour within digital design was difficult, however through being to practice within the previous unit, I was able to positively complete this collection to a satisfying level. Precise Florette collection revealed another way I was able to introduce floral into wallpaper, through photographic images. I was very pleased with my end results for this collection. Being able to style and arrange florals was something new to me and I challenge which I enjoyed.

Having the opportunity to be able to work within the area of teaching has also been a successful experience, which I wish to further do after my time at university. This unit has allowed me to fulfil my passion for teaching and designing, and I hope I will be able to further utilise the skills I have been taught within my future career.
